Honda CB750 K0 sandcast. Mad Matts CB750 Sandcast #2. This is my second CB750 sandcast restoration. This bike was built from junk yard parts accumulated over several years. Amazingly enough, even though the frame and engine were found separately, the numbers are within range of “correct”. Engine CB750E-1004942 and Frame CB750-1005184. At this point in time I am still searching for and saving my pennies for all the remaining correct parts to finish this up as a 100% correct restoration, BUT I must admit I love the headers and am enjoying riding it with the headers on so I think they will stay for a while. I bought some instrument housings from Yamiya and am working on some perfectly restored K0 gages for it. The speedo even has the sandcast drive on it. One piece at a time….. It is running great now and I have put 100+ miles on it now. I borrowed the skins from sandcast #1 for now but I am restoring a wrinkle tank and am looking to paint a set of skins in candy ruby red for this bike. I can’t wait to park them together, blue and red for some pics. Hope you enjoy the videos …. more to come in the future.

This is Mad Matt’s 1980 Honda CBX. This bike was purchased at the Mid-America Auction in Las Vegas in Jan 2009 for $3500. It was not running at the time. I dis-assembled the carbs and cleaned them. I re-jetted for my altitude at 5000 ft with a dynojet kit, taking into consideration the air filters and pipe. I also re-built the clutch basket per an article I found on CBX world using 2 part 3M body filler to remold the clutch basket cush drive rubbers. I also removed the rear wheel and swingarm, powder coated the swingarm and cleaned it all up. I replaced the tires front and back, polished the engine covers, including the valve cover, cleaned the motor, and spray painted the engine cases aluminum. The kick stands were removed and powder coated, and also the battery box. The valves were adjusted and carbs synched. It still needs some carb work, but she runs pretty darn good for a 30 year old! The paint is really nice, I am sure it was re-painted at some point. I really love this bike, it just has a unique sound and I feel like a big kid when I ride it. I am planning a few Kewlmetal after market goodies for the CBX, and I hope to get a few out in the near future. Hope you enjoy the video.

There is nothing quite like the sound and smell of the old 2 strokes. This bike handles like crap, the suspension is soooo bad, the brakes are so poor, the ride in general is just bad, BUT, these Kawasaki H2’s just have a nostalgia about them. They are rare and collectable, especially a stock 1972 Kawasaki H2. This one is not too far from stock, besides the chambers and the Mikuini flat side carbs. This bike runs really sweet. It idles perfectly and when the power band hits, look out!!! when I first got it I was riding on a divided highway in a 65 mph zone and in 5th gear. It is way out of the power band, so I down shifted to 4th, still nothing, so while I still had the throttle wide open, I speed shifted it into 3rd, and wham, the freakin bike almost shot out from under me!! That would have hurt! Anyhow, I treat it with respect and really only wind it through the power band in second and third and in a straight line. It was called the widow maker for a damn good reason! I will make some videos of this bike running as soon as this winter weather warm up a bit! I have another one of these 1972 Kawasaki H2’s in pieces and am working towards building it.

I think anyone who restores a bike has that dream ride they want to take when it’s done. Jerome is only 40 miles away for me, but it’s a beautiful ride in the twisties and a great destination. So anyone who has completed a big project bike or car or airplane or whatever, and taken that dream ride knows it’s a great feeling you have on that special day! I restore for the fun of it and there will be more restorations in my future if at all possible!
